Job loss: when life pulls the rug from under you

I’ve been reflecting on this over the summer, and I want to share something for anyone who’s been impacted by sudden change.

One day, you’re confidently moving forward in your career. The next… it’s gone. A layoff. A restructure. A change you never saw coming.

It’s unsettling, and the instinct is to do something, anything, immediately. Send out applications. Ping contacts. Say “yes” to whatever comes along.

It feels like taking control. But sometimes… it’s just panic in disguise.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the best decisions — the ones that truly changed my life — didn’t come from rushing. They came from slowing down enough to hear something deeper: my intuition.

Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about:

  • Fear is loud, frantic, and depleting. It makes your world smaller.

  • Intuition is quiet but certain. It expands your possibilities.

If you’re in a moment of forced change right now, the most powerful thing you can do might be to pause. Create the quiet. Listen.

Last weekend, I recorded a new episode of my podcast Connect with Chloé on exactly this: navigating job loss, telling fear and intuition apart, and making your next move from abundance, not scarcity.
